Is Blood Thicker Than Water?

Blood is thicker than water. How many times have you heard this before? Basically it means that family relations are more important than relations with friends. I truly and strongly disagree with this. Family is important, don't get me wrong. I love ever person in my family no matter how often I get to see them or talk to them. So the biggest issue I have with this idiom is that some friends are like family. In no shape or form are these friends any less important to me.
As a child growing up I had "water" in my life that took the form of "blood." My grandma has a best friend who is still to this day a part of our lives. She is my aunt and she calls me her niece. My mom's best friend when my brother and I were young was also our aunt. I have been blessed with this now as an adult. I have had the same best friend for 15 years and because of that wonderful relationship, have an amazing nephew and niece that call me Aunt Lena. I've had this title for almost 8 years now! It was a wonderful day when each of them came along...one almost 8 years ago, one almost 6 years ago, and one almost 3 years ago. Each one of these three children are incredibly special to me. So whether they are referred to as "blood" and "water" it doesn't matter to me...to me they are family and I love each and ever one of them.

Liver Life Walk

April 1, 2007 my mother has a life saving transplant. I am blessed to still have her in my life because before she got it, the doctors has told us that people that had as much damage to their liver as she did, normally did not live 24 hours. That is news that no person wants to hear about someone they love. So I'm not going to go into the whole story because I've done that already. Long story short, they found her a match and it was a perfect match.

All of this just to let people know that we are doing a walk for liver disease. This is obviously something important to me and that's why I gave the brief background story. The walk is on July 24, 2010. We are doing the walk to raise money for liver disease. I am doing this for my mother, for all the people out there that need transplants, and all of the donors and their families out there.

If you are interested in sponsoring me or our team, PLEASE check out the link. I realize no one has extra money right now but even a small donation like $5 is going to add up. Thanks so much! Please share this link with your family and friends.

Breed Haters

I know I've written a blog similar to this before but it really hits my last nerve when people judge pit bulls by the reputation that they have. You can't even rent an apartment or a house if you own a pit bull. I look at this as being prejudiced. It's the same as judging a man by the color of his skin. How is this any different when your talking about a dog?? Why are things like this not based on a case by case basis? Why don't you come to my house and personally meet my dogs...then tell me if they are vicious. Don't hate on my dogs because they are pit bulls. It makes me feel the same way that someone else would if their child was being picked on at school because of the clothes they wore. People should stop and take a deeper look at their actions and prejudice.

When pit bulls were brought to the United States they were used for hunting, driving livestock, and as family companions. There are so many famous pit bulls and also some well known people that have owned them.

Everyone knows of Helen Keller, who was blind and deaf. She had a pit bull. Petey from The Little Rascals was a pit bull. There is even a famous war hero from WWI who happened to be a pit bull. Sergeant Stubby was an amazing dog and did so much for the 102nd Infantry that he served with. Check him out if you get time.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sergeant_Stubby
There are even many celebrities that are currently pit bull owners.

Please judge the deed, not the breed!

Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Twinkle is our current SPCA foster puppy. She is probably about 13 weeks old right now. We have had her since December 19th. Her mother is a pit bull mix but don't let that scare you away! Most people that have seen her think that she is some sort of Shepard mix.
She is a very smart girl. She understand what "no" means. She already knows her "sit" command. Even her potty training has improved tons!! Still needs a little work but she is getting there. She just needs a great family to love her, give her attention, and time to learn. I really, truly hope that she can get adopted this coming Sat at her adoption event. If your interested or know anyone who is you can fill out an application for the SPCA on the www.petfinder.com website. Here is a link to Twinkle. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/15216458
